Overview
Tra Vinh is a Mekong Delta province that has a coastline of stretching along the East Vietnam Sea. It’s a home of several ethnic minorities but mainly three communities: Kinh, Hoa, and Khmer; in which, Khmer people occupy 30% of the population.
This land has a long history that attached to the Champa culture. Because it accommodates multiple customs in one place, each particular time of the year, Tra Vinh has its distinctive fun.

Tra Vinh was called Tra Vang back in the old days according to the language of the Khmer people. It’d officially got the name in 1876 when the French ruled the south of Vietnam.
After April 30th 1075, the province still remained until 1976 when it was joined to Vinh Long. However, after times of splitting, Tra Vinh’s got its land as today with one city and seven towns.
Geography
From Ho Chi Minh city, it takes 200km to Tra Vinh via the National Highway No. 53 through Vinh Long. But if going through Ben Tre via highway number 60, it takes only 130km.
Tra Vinh is located at the end of the islet sandwiched between the Tien and Hau rivers. The terrain is mainly flat land with elevations about 1m below the sea level in coastal plains. So, sand dunes are running continuously in an arc and parallel with the coast, towards the sea, the higher and broader the beds.
Due to the division by races and the system of roads, canals interlaced, the terrain of the whole area is quite complicated. The low-lying areas are sandwiched with high ropes; the slope tendency is shown in each field.
Climate
Tra Vinh has abundant radiation light condition with high but stable temperature. But in the particular region near the sea, the place features strong winds, high evaporation, and little rain. Therefore, it’s not affected by the flood, which is appealing for producing, trading, and tourism.
Tourism
Touring Tra Vinh will give an exceptional experience from other provinces in Mekong Delta. With lots of ruins and building preserved from the Champa time, there are many historical sites to visit. Namely, Hang pagoda, Ang pagoda, Khmer museum, Vam Ray pagoda, Nodol pagoda, etc.
Ecotourism is the advantage of Tra Vinh. While nature is the most precious treasure of this place, it’s easy to find wild spots for checking in like Ba Om lake, arenga forests, Tan Quy islet, Huynh Kha eco-park, and Ba Dong sea.
Transportation
Road and waterway are the only ways to get to Tra Vinh. From Ho Chi Minh city, take highways number 53 or 60. It’s best to come with a motorbike to move around the province. Another option is visitors can rent a taxi or van to get here. There are bus companies operating trips to Tra Vinh.
