The island was renamed after former President Ho Chi Minh and Russian astronaut Gherman Titov toured Halong Bay together in 1962. Fascinated by the picturesque islet, Mr. Titov, the second man to orbit the Earth, inspired Uncle Ho to rename the island as a symbol of friendship between their two nations.
