Detailed Itinerary of DMZ Day Tour from Hue.
Vietnam Travel's local guide will pick you up at your hotel in Hue City at 7:00 A.M then head north on the National Road No. 1 to Dong Ha City. This full day trip to the DMZ from Hue offers you an experience to explore in depth what kind of impact the conflict has had on the society and see iconic battlefields and ruins.
Along the way, learn more about the Vietnam War by visiting iconic battlefields and memorials. The first visit of today is Highway 9 National Cemetery where more than 10.000 NVA soldiers rest in peace labeled as "unknown hero". Next stops are the Rockpile - the American observation post for Communist infiltration and Dakrong Bridge - a starting point of Ho Chi Minh Trails from the DMZ crossing Highway 9 to the South to transport foods, weapons, ammos for the Vietcong. Then visit Khe Sanh Combat Base and see weaponry and artifacts from the days of the war. Stop by an ethnic minority village and learn about the life of its inhabitants before having lunch in a local restaurant.
The tour continues Hien Luong Bridge (Peace Bridge) on Ben Hai River - the former border between North and South at 17th Parallel. Then head northeast toward the East Sea to visit Vinh Moc Tunnels - where showing harsh living condition during the war and a real testament for Vietnamese determination of fighting. Explore the country's eventful and complicated history at the exact same spots where the action took place.
Drive back to your hotel in Hue, en route you'll stop for quick visits at Quang Tri Ancient Citadel and La Vang Catholic Church. Tour concludes at your hotel by 18:00.
If you only like to see a glimpse of the DMZ area, we advise you to skip to the Rockpile, Dakrong Bridge & Khe Sanh (or you may discuss with our tour guide about some attractions to miss). It could save your time and energy because of a long distance to cover the full DMZ tour (approx. 400 km).
